I took this photo in early May. I was trying to write about it, but more than two months went by. And now it’s summer, when watermelons are at their best.
A friend who lives in the Upper East Side texted me to catch up, and we ended up meeting that same day. We met at the Lexington Ave and 77th Street station.Since Central Park was close, he was like, “Let’s go to the park.” (People on the Upper East Side just say “the park” and mean Central Park.) So we walked along 77th Street toward Fifth Avenue. There are a bunch of benches along Central Park on Fifth Avenue. We sat down. I know he’s a big fan of Woody Allen, and while I was listening to him talk, I started thinking about that, and somehow it felt like we were in one of his movies.
After a while, we decided to head out. Since I was already in the Upper East Side, I figured I should finally go to J.G. Melon, the classic spot famous for its burgers that I’d never tried before.
So I ordered a cheeseburger.

I live in downtown Manhattan, but whenever I go up to the Upper East Side or Upper West Side, it really feels like Manhattan.
Food letter from New York by JIMA who is photographer. He is always interested in food so much. Enjoy his food.
